Rules and Regulations XVI Edition

  1. TARGETS

    The The XVI La Cittadella del Corto - International Short Fiction Film Festival will take place in Trevignano Romano (Roma - Italy) from May 28th to 30th, 2010. The Festival is organized by the association La Cittadella and receives financial support from the Italian Ministry of Culture, Lazio Region and other public and private partners. The Festival aims to promote quality short fiction films. Among its goals there are the discovery of new talents and showing their films, with particular regard to all those films which deal with social and youth themes. The festival has an International and a National Competition. The competitions are open and free for all who want to submit a film for the preview.

  2. ADMITTED FILMS

    Only fiction films are admitted. No commercials (advertising films) are admitted. Films shot on print must not exceed a length of 29 minutes. Films shot on video must not exceed a length of 15 minutes. In exceptional cases the Festival reserves the right to accept films of longer duration. All the films should not be already submitted to this festival and must be completed after January 1st, 2008. Each director can send more than one entry without limitations. Films which have been shown or awarded at other international film festivals are allowed to compete.

  3. ENTRY COSTS AND RIGHTS

    The submission and participation to the selection are free. The production company or the distribution company authorize the festival to show/broadcast an extract of the film of 1 minute maximum in regional or national TV as promotional material for the Festival.

  4. DEAD LINE

    The submission deadline is February 28, 2010.

  5. ENTRY FORM

    All films submitted for the competitions must be sent in DVD (only Pal, Zone 2 - Europe). Non-Italian films (or with no Italian dialogues) should be subtitled in Italian or English, or must be sent with a print copy of the dialogue list written in one of these languages. In the package, together with the DVD copy, must be attached:
    a) printed and signed entry form which has been filled on-line
    b) Italian or English dialogue list (only for non Italian films (or with no Italian dialogues)

    Only in case of selection, the folloving material must be sent by e-mail under our request:

    - 1 still from the film (no backstage photos)
    - 1 photo of the director
    - a brief bio-filmography of the director
    - a list of the festivals in which the film was shown, with corresponding awards

    The submission will not be validated if all requested materials will not be shipped and delivered in time.

  6. SHIPPING PROCEDURE FOR SELECTION MATERIALS

    Films and materials as requested in the point 6 must be sent by mail or courier service and carry the declaration: "FOR TEMPORARY, CULTURAL PURPOSE ONLY. NO COMMERCIAL VALUE".   7. ARCHIVE STORING

    DVD copies received for the selection, as well as attached materials, will not be returned and will be stored in the Festival archive. La Cittadella is authorized to all uses, with no commercial aim, for private visions, also open to third parts, inside the festival places.

  8. SELECTION COMMUNICATION

    Directors or distributors of selected films will be informed within April 30 2010. Directors or distributors of non-selected films will notbe directly informed. They could be informed both subscribing to our newsletter on the festival website and visiting the web site from the first week of May 2009.

  9. SCREENING FORMAT

    35mm and 16mm selected films will be screened ONLY in film print (16mm and 35mm), video format are not accepted. Films shot on video (doesn't matter which is the specific shooting format) will be screened starting by a MiniDV and DVD support. It will be necessary to specify the screening format on the submit entry.

  10. SHIPPING PROCEDURE FOR SELECTED FILMS

    Festival screening copies of selected films must be sent by courier service to the address above. The shipping costs will be on sender charge. Return shipping will be at festival's expences. The festival must be notified of any changes in the return address before the beginning of the Festival. Dispatches from non-EU-member states must be accompanied by a pro forma invoice amounting to max 10 USD/EUR (no higher amounts will be accepted by the Festival). Please do not use any air courier, Festival doesn't have any custom dealer and films stopped won't be collected and the Festival will not take in charge any expence or custom tax for the shipping/import of the films. The films will be insured by the festival for the whole time of their being in the Festival“s possession (from delivery to our office to back delivery to the director/distributor). During that period, in case of damage or loss, only the costs of the print of a new copy will be reimbursed. All the screening copies 16mm or 35mm must be delivered within May 15 2010. All the screening copies MiniDV or DVD must be delivered within May 10 2010. Films whose copies will not arrive within that date will be considered as "not selected". MiniDV and DVD screening copies (for video competition) will not be returned and will be part of the Festival archive.

  11. PRIZES AND JURY

    All the selected films will compete for the Gran Trofeo Tralci di Trevignano. A single prize of 2,000 euros will be assigned to the Best International Short Film. An Audience Award of 2,000 euros will be assigned by the audience to the Best Italian Film. Among the Italian films will be also awarded the Best Director, Actor, Actress, Production Company, Cinematography and Editing. Other prizes or special mentions may be assigned by the Jury and/or the Festival direction. The prizes will be assigned to directors. The total amount of the prizes will be communicated at the beginning of the Festival and will be subject to variations according to the unobjectionable opinion of the Festival direction. An International Jury nominated by the Festival and formed by well known professionals will be invited to evaluate the selected films.

  12. HOSPITALITY

    Festival covers the hospitality expenses to the invited directors except for those who live in Lazio Region. Terms and conditions of the offer will be communicated directly to the selected directors in the selection letter. Hospitality is related to availability of the hotels which have a deal with the festival. In any case the Festival will cover the hospitality of only one of the directors (if more than one) for each film. The invitation cannot be transferred to other parties.

  13. RETROSPECTIVES AND SPECIAL PROGRAMS

    All selected films may be scheduled in retrospectives and special programs of the festival which will take place in the months following the festival. The Festival organization will contact the right holders and/or the directors in order to authorize those events.

  14. TERMS OF THIS REGULATIONS

    Participation in the Festival implies recognition of these regulations in every single point, without reservation. For this reason the submission will be validated only if the on-line entry form will be printed and signed by the director or rights owner, which will take in charge that the informations given are true and will authorize the privacy policy treatment according to the Italian laws. In case of informations which will be demonstrated to be false the film will be excluded by the competition even if selected. The Festival Directorate shall decide on any cases of doubt which have not been mentioned in these regulations. In case of dispute only the Italian text shall bear witness.
